An AI writing assistant for Windows, in any app

Scrubbr is an AI writing assistant that runs on Windows 10 (version 1809 or later, 64-bit) and writes at your cursor in any app with a text cursor, such as Outlook and Teams, not only in Word. Hold Alt, say one line, and Scrubbr writes the message as you, with the facts from your email, chat and calendar in it.

The tools on Windows, and what each works from

Several AI tools run on Windows. They differ in where you use them and in what they know about your work.

Each row comes from that tool's own pages. If a page is silent on email, calendar or chat, the row says "we did not see it". That describes the page, not the tool.

ToolHow you use it on WindowsWhat it works from, per its pages
Microsoft Copilot on WindowsA desktop app. You open it with the Copilot key or Windows key + C, or say "Hey, Copilot" when that is turned on in Settings. It can "search your files, understand what's on your screen with Copilot Vision, and help you across apps and documents". It is free to use on Windows, and extras need Microsoft 365 Copilot. We did not see on that page that it types text at your cursor in other apps.
Grammarly for WindowsA desktop app from the Microsoft Store. It needs Windows 10 or newer and has a free plan. It works in Microsoft Word and Outlook.Suggestions as you type, and "Personalized suggestions based on your voice and brand". We did not see a page that says it reads your email, calendar or Slack to write a draft.
Superhuman GoA desktop app for Windows and Mac, and browser extensions. You highlight text in any app and pick an action. It connects to apps through "pre-built or custom MCP connectors" and can "understand what's on your screen". We did not see voice input on that page.
Wispr FlowDictation on Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. Its pages say it "types wherever your cursor is".Your voice, turned into text. We did not see email, calendar or Slack context on its pages.
LemonAvailable for macOS and Windows. Its home page says "It types where your cursor is."Its home page says it "matches the thread and writes it in your tone".
ScrubbrA desktop app for Windows 10 (version 1809 or later, 64-bit) and Mac. You hold Alt and speak, or click the pencil and type.Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat, Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar and Granola, plus your CRM (HubSpot and Salesforce) and a knowledge base.

If you want a chat helper that is already on your PC, Copilot on Windows may be enough. If you want corrections as you type, Grammarly is built for that. Scrubbr is for the case where you want a finished message that already holds the facts from your other apps.

What it reads

What Scrubbr reads on a Windows work setup

If your day is Outlook and Teams, that is where Scrubbr looks first.

What Scrubbr reads for a message on a Windows work setup
The message needsScrubbr reads
The email you are answeringOutlook (or Gmail)
What your team said in chatMicrosoft Teams (or Slack or Google Chat)
When you are freeOutlook Calendar (or Google Calendar)
What was agreed in a meetingGranola
Customer detailsYour CRM (HubSpot or Salesforce)

You choose which tools to connect. Scrubbr searches them for a line that needs a fact and keeps to the pieces that help. The app you are in and the box you are typing in are visible to it only while you hold the key.

Four steps

How it works at your cursor

Mac users press Option; on Windows you hold Alt, and the rest is the same.

  1. Click where you would type. Use Outlook, Teams, a browser, a document or any other app with a text cursor.
  2. Hold Alt and say one line. Either Alt key works by default, and a rough line is enough. Or click the pencil and type it.
  3. Scrubbr looks. It finds the email, the chat and the calendar entry that match your line.
  4. The message appears. It is written where your cursor is, in your voice. You read it, change what you want and send it.

Setup

Putting it on a Windows PC

The install takes a few minutes and one sign-in.

  1. Check your PC. You need Windows 10 (version 1809 or later), 64-bit.
  2. Download and run the installer. It is signed. You may be asked whether to install it for you only or for everyone on the PC.
  3. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC". This can happen with a newer publisher. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  4. Sign in with Google or Microsoft. Allow the microphone, and connect a mailbox.
  5. Hold Alt and speak. Scrubbr opens after you click Finish.

Worked example

From "reply to Hannah" to a message with the facts in it

Ravi runs the office at Ravenscar Accounting, a small firm, and a client asks why her invoice is higher than the quote. The answer is in a Teams chat.

In Outlook

You say

altreply to Hannah, say sorry about the invoice, the extra was a duplicate line, Dev already sent the fixed one, and offer a quick call Wednesday

Scrubbr finds

  • Outlook · Hannah Cole, "Invoice 2041 is higher than the quote" (3 messages)
  • Microsoft Teams · Accounts chat, Dev Patel: "Duplicate line removed, corrected invoice 2041-A sent Monday"
  • Outlook Calendar · Wednesday 11:00 am open

Scrubbr writes

Hi Hannah,

Thanks for flagging this, and sorry for the confusion. Invoice 2041 included one line twice, which added $180. Dev sent you a corrected invoice, 2041-A, on Monday, back at the quoted $2,160.

If you would like to go through it, I am free on Wednesday at 11:00.

Ravi

Questions

Questions on Windows writing tools

Is there an AI writing assistant for Windows that works in any app?

Yes. Scrubbr runs on Windows 10 (version 1809 or later, 64-bit) and writes at your cursor in any app with a text cursor. Other tools run on Windows too. Their rows in the table above are taken from their own pages.

What key do I press on Windows?

Hold Alt, either one, and say your line. Mac users press Option, and Windows uses Alt. You can pick a different key in Scrubbr's Settings.

Does Scrubbr work with Outlook and Teams?

Yes. It reads Outlook, Microsoft Teams and Outlook Calendar for context, and it writes in any app where you can type. You decide which of those tools to connect.

Windows says "Windows protected your PC". Is that a problem?

It can appear for a newer publisher. Click More info, then Run anyway. The installer is signed.

Is Copilot on Windows enough?

It may be, if you want a chat helper on your PC. It is free to use on Windows, and Microsoft's page describes it as an app that can search your files and see what is on your screen. We did not see on that page that it types at your cursor in other apps.

What does Scrubbr cost on Windows?

The price is the same as on Mac: $12 a month with yearly billing, or $15 a month billed monthly. Your first 3 days cost nothing and need no card; a card adds 7 more days.
